I had laser treatment for melasma little over a week ago, since then I have been using an spf 55 sunblock regularly. I was wondering if there is a self tanning product I could buy to just add a little color to my face so it doesnt look so pale compared to the rest of me. I’m just not sure how good that is for treated skin, and it it would cause pigment problems for me again. Any advice would be appreciated.

Whatever you do, don’t go to a tanning bed. That could make things worse because of the concentrated UV rays and it increases your risks of getting skin cancer.

But as far as spray-on tanning products, I don’t know. I’ve never used any of them because of too afraid of turning orange or getting streaks.

Hyperpigmentation refers to an excess of the brown pigment melanin in the skin. Excess redness from previous acne is a normal part of the healing process and it will eventually go away on its own, whereas hyperpigmentation may or may not improve on its own. Lasers and IPL devices can improve redness and hyperpigmentation, but you can get the improvement without the risks of laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing is an option that can improve certain skin conditions, but it will certainly increase the redness of your skin for at least a few weeks, and usually several months; it is never used as the primary treatment option when excess redness is the only concern. IPL treatments are non-invasive and cause far less trauma to the skin than laser resurfacing, and they can help to reduce the red marks significantly. I would recommend that you get a second (or third) opinion before you decide on which treatment to pursue, and make sure that you get information on the risks vs. benefits of each procedure.
